Vol. 235 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Television Reception.

13.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the bad television reception in Farnanes, County Cork; and if he is prepared to rectify the matter as promised in a reply of 12 months ago.

The reply to the earlier question referred to was that the Authority were carrying out a survey of this and other areas with a view to deciding what further action, if any, should be taken to improve reception in them.

I now understand that the Authority propose in a matter of about six months to make certain improvements in the Spur Hill transposer from which signals are received in this area, and expect that this will result in improved reception.

14.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if the survey has yet been carried out in the Foxford area, County Mayo where the quality of television reception is below normal standard; and if a decision on further action to improve reception has yet been taken.

I understand that the Authority have surveyed the Foxford area together with other areas of poor television reception and is now considering a number of possible sites for the erection of transposers in order to improve matters. It will be for the Authority to decide the order in which any additional transposers for which capital is available will be provided.

15.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has yet received a report on the recent survey of television black-spots throughout the country; and, if so, what action he proposes to take regarding the very poor reception in the Clifden area of Connemara.

The survey referred to was arranged by Radio Telefís Éireann and the action, if any, to be taken arising from it is a matter for that body. The Clifden area was one of those covered by the survey, and I understand that the Authority are now considering a number of possible sites for the erection of transposers in order to improve reception in these areas. The order in which any additional transposers for which capital is available are to be provided is a matter for decision by the Authority.
