Vol. 236 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Rebate of Petrol Duty for Fishermen.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will grant a rebate of duty on petrol genuinely used by fishermen in their fishing boats.

: I do not propose to introduce a concession of this nature.

: Does the Taoiseach not consider that the fishermen are as much entitled to a rebate as the farmers?

: When it was given to the farmers it was abused to the extent that it had to be withdrawn.

: It has not been withdrawn.

: Yes. The Deputy is talking about petrol not diesel oil.

: Petrol is used in the outboard engines only.

: Petrol and fuel oil are two different things.

: There is an advantage to the farmer in the price he pays for diesel oil, but I am talking about petrol, which is a very common method of propulsion in small fishing boats.

: It would be very difficult to administer anyway.

: I would ask the Taoiseach to have another look at it.
