Vol. 236 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Flooding.

17.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that considerable sums of money have been expended by Donegal County Council in making Barnesmore Gap Road the main artery into County Donegal; and that the effects of this expenditure are being negatived by the flooding of this roadway; and, if so, if he will make available a grant to drain the Lowrymor river.

: The Commissioners of Public Works have no funds from which they could make a grant for the drainage of the Lowrymor and Barnes rivers.

: Is the Minister aware that the Department of Local Government have made substantial moneys available for the repair and reconstruction of this road? However, it is pure waste of money, as the road is being flooded, and until such flooding is abated we may as well close down. In view of that will the Parliamentary Secretary not consider making available a grant for the cleaning of this river?

: The drainage of these rivers has nothing to do with roads.
