Vol. 236 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Differential Rents.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the fact that sons and daughters of Dublin Corporation flat-rented tenants, when succeeding to the tenancy, are being required to pay differential rents despite the fact that such sons and daughters were either born in the houses concerned or resided for many years in them but neglected to report the death of their parents, the official tenants, either through fear or ignorance; and that as a consequence they were penalised; and if he will arrange that all such sons or daughters will be given the choice of remaining on flat rent or changing to differential rent.

Proposals in this matter were received from Dublin Corporation yesterday. I am having them considered and will issue my decision as soon as possible.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of Dublin Corporation tenants at present paying Schedule B differential rents on pre-1954 houses; when Dublin Corporation propose to discontinue this practice; and when affected tenants will receive rebates on overpayments.

Scheme B rents do not apply to pre-1954 houses. I would suggest to the Deputy to take up with the corporation any specific case where he thinks a scheme B rent is being wrongly charged.

Questions Nos. 27, 28 and 29 postponed.
