asked the Taoiseach the number of tanneries at present operating in Ireland; and the total number of workers employed by them.

The number of establishments engaged in the production of leather in the State in June, 1968, the latest date for which information is at present available, was 11 and the total number of persons engaged in these establishments at that time is estimated at 1,200.

12.

asked the Taoiseach the number of tanneries in Ireland and the number of workers employed in this trade when the statutory order restricting the export of domestic sheepskins was applied.

Presumably the statutory order referred to in the Deputy's question is the Agricultural Products (Restriction of Export) Order, 1956, (S.I. No. 56 of 1956) which came into operation on 1st April, 1956. The number of establishments engaged in the production of leather in the State at that time was 16 and the total number of persons engaged in these establishments was 1,332.
