Vol. 236 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon School.

56.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the dilapidated state of Derrynacarta national school, Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon; if he has examined the position with a view to providing a new school or renovating the old one; and when a final decision will be taken on the matter.

A decision has already been taken in my Department to provide a new central school at Derrynacarta. The reverend manager has offered a site for the school and arrangements are being made to have the site inspected by the Commissioners of Public Works. I understand that repairs were carried out to the roof of the existing school in May last. The Commissioners will now be asked, however, to report on the feasibility of carrying out such further repairs as are considered necessary to render the school serviceable pending the erection of the new school.

The Minister spoke about a new central school. Could he say on what school does he propose to concentrate?

Yes, it is to replace the existing Derrynacarta school and the Tondragee school. We are considering the inclusion of the Brosna school in the new central area also.
