Vol. 236 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry School.

77.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the closing of Kilmakerin national school, Aghatubrid, Killarney, County Kerry; and if the children who formerly attended that school will now be sent to Spunkane national school, Waterville, as requested by their parents.

It is proposed to replace Kilmakerin national school and a number of neighbouring schools by a new central school. On the resignation of the teacher in Kilmakerin in September last it was decided, as an interim arrangement, to provide transport for the children of that school to Mastergeehy national school—3½ miles away—until such time as the new central school is built. The school at Waterville, which is 5½ miles away, is not included in the scheme of amalgamation.
