Vol. 237 No. 7

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Membership of EEC.

2.

asked the Taoiseach whether he intends to make any further continental visits regarding the Government's application for EEC membership.

While I have no immediate plans for visits of the nature in question it is, of course, my intention to continue the practice of ministerial contacts, as occasion requires, with the member Governments of the European Economic Community and with the EEC Commission.

Does the Taoiseach envisage any reference to EEC plans of this Government in any further conversations he may have with Mr. Wilson later this week? In view of the present confused state on the Continent, does the Taoiseach envisage that this matter will arise in the course of conversation?

I usually avail of any talks I have with Mr. Wilson to discuss our mutual interest in membership of EEC. No doubt I shall again take advantage of this occasion to do so, if it is appropriate.

The Taoiseach had better have a serious talk with Mr. Wilson about the Anglo-Irish Free Trade Area Agreement.

Would the Taoiseach not agree that our prospects of joining EEC are more remote now than they were at this time last year?

Probably more remote than I thought this time last year——

The Taoiseach would not say EEC would be more remote?

Both of you might be wrong.
