Vol. 237 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Cottage Rental.

40.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the increase by the Kerry County Council of a cottage rental from 1s 3d per week to 5s, an increase of 400 per cent, in the case of a person (name supplied) when increases on all others amounted to only 33? per cent and 50 per cent.

Increases in fixed rents such as this are by law a matter for the housing authority, in relation to which I have no function.

I understand, however, from the housing authority that as from 1st April, 1967, a minimum rent of 5s a week was applied to lettings, generally, with the exception of cases of hardship. I understand, further, that it has not been possible to establish hardship in the case to which the Deputy refers, due to the refusal of the tenant to give the necessary information to the housing authority.
