Vol. 237 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Off-Street Parking Facilities.

78.

asked the Minister for Local Government if there are any proposals before him from the Dublin Corporation for the provision of off-street car parking, other than at one level on derelict sites; if not, if he will arrange to confer with the local authority with a view to having multi-storey car parks erected without delay at suitable centres; whether private enterprise has expressed any interest in erecting such car parks; and if he will make a general statement on the matter.

There are no proposals before my Department. I understand that the whole question of off-street parking facilities is under consideration by the corporation who are the responsible road authority and it is to the corporation that private concerns might express any interest they may have in providing multi-storey parks.

79.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange for any surplus moneys collected by the newly-appointed traffic wardens to be put into a special fund for the purpose of relieving local authorities from the cost of providing in their own areas multi-storey, off-street car parks, as there is now a situation where all parks which permit more than 1 hour parking are almost constantly filled to capacity.

Payments resulting from the issue of notices under section 103 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, are payable into the Road Fund in accordance with the provisions of the Roads Act, 1920. The proceeds of the Road Fund, after allowing for administrative expenses, are allocated to the local authorities and may be used by them for purposes which include the provision of off-street parking facilities.
