Vol. 237 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Monaghan School.

32.

asked the Minister for Education if he is prepared to give 100 per cent grant for interim urgent repairs to Killybrone national schools, County Monaghan, pending the erection of a new school at Clara, which may take three to five years.

My Department has already sanctioned a grant towards the cost of the works necessary to keep the Killybrone national school serviceable pending the erection of the new central school.

The grant sanctioned has been on the basis of the normal one-third local contribution laid down in the regulations.

Any representations which the manager may wish to make for an increase in the amount of the grant will be considered in the light of the economic circumstances of his parish.

Is the Minister aware that the circumstances obtaining in this parish represent some difficulty, that as a result of local co-operation we have managed to get a pretty general acceptance of and a reasonable attitude to the Minister's proposals? The proposal for an enhanced grant is a very important matter because it could be made an occasion of trying to break up the atmosphere we have now succeeded in establishing. Owing to the special circumstances obtaining, would the Minister instruct the appropriate division of his Department to deal with this matter and probably take the initiative himself in order to get it dealt with?

We will do a bit more here.

The Minister understands that there are special circumstances?

We will give a bit more here because, as Deputy Dillon has said, the policy of this particular parish is precisely on all fours with the ideas which he has adumbrated.

The Minister understands the special circumstances?

Quite. We will do a bit more in this case.
