The area of arable land on hands of the Land Commission in County Mayo at 31st March, 1968, the most recent date for which statistics are available, was 4,500 acres, approximately. It is not possible to indicate when the individual estates comprised in this acreage will be allocated but there will be no avoidable delay. The necessary local inquiries preliminary to allotment are being pushed forward as rapidly as circumstances permit.
I may say that the total area allotted in County Mayo during the last three complete financial years exceeded 15,000 acres—and it is expected that an area of about 4,000 acres will be allotted in the current year.
