Vol. 238 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - ISPCC Grant.

30.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will substantially increase the grant-in-aid to the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children; and when payment will be made of the grant to this society in respect of the current financial year.

The grant-in-aid to the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children has already been substantially increased. The Society asked me for additional assistance and I agreed to double their yearly grant of £6,000. The Supplementary Estimate for the extra £6,000 was approved by the Dáil in December last.

The Society has already been paid £6,000 out of this year's grant. Payment of the balance will be made on application by the Society and in the light of their financial position as disclosed in their annual accounts.

Do I understand that if they simply write and ask for the further £6,000, they will be paid?

No, not quite. Payment of the balance will be made on application by the Society and in the light of their financial position as disclosed in their annual accounts. It is there for them if needed.

I take it the position is that the deficit is £12,000, even after credit has been given for the £6,000 already paid, so in the light of that——

It would seem they will get it all right.
