Vol. 238 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Exemption from Wholesale Tax.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance why Lassar's paste and cream, both listed in the British Pharmacopaeia since 1963, are not recognised as medicants and as such exempt from wholesale tax.

The inclusion of an article in the British Pharmacopaeia does not necessarily mean that the article is a medicine. The Revenue Commissioners accept, however, that Lassar's paste and cream qualify for exemption from wholesale tax because of the medicinal use to which these preparations are put.

Could we hear that again?

We have accepted it as medicine.
