Engineers are mentioned here. Does it cover quantity surveyors? They are left out. They also are engaged in the building industry.
Committee on Finance. - Export Promotion (Amendment) Bill, 1969: Committee and Final Stages.
No, only architects and engineers.
That is what I thought. Is there any particular reason for leaving them out? Should they be included?
The architectural and engineering services seem to be the ones that would yield the greatest results. Deputies will appreciate that we are putting these in solely because of the results we hope to get out of it.
I agree with the Minister.
It may be that quantity surveyors would be carrying out work abroad—some of them are, I know. However, I do not think the role of the quantity surveyor enables him to influence very much the choice of materials which are used—which is what we are at here—whereas the architect or engineer is in a position to specify what is needed.
Big firms abroad are employing Irish quantity surveyors.
In some cases, there would be Irish quantity surveyors working along with them but I do not think that, as such, the quantity surveyor would be in a position to influence the specification.
