Vol. 238 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the position in regard to Lisgriffin group water scheme, Buttevant, Cork.

This scheme, as designed, appeared to be beyond the financial resources of the group. A design modified to reduce the overall cost was requested from the group's engineer last November and is awaited.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position in regard to the Liscreagh-Dooneen group water scheme, Millstreet, Cork.

No proposal for a group water supply scheme for this area has been received in my Department. Arrangements are being made for an inspector to visit the area to investigate the position.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position regarding the proposed group water supply scheme for Tooremore, Kilcummin, Killarney, Kerry.

Kerry County Council notified my Department last week that they have approved of this scheme and the State grants have been allocated to the group. It is now a matter for the group to arrange for the commencement of the work.

40.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received proposals for an extension of the water scheme at Cahirciveen, Kerry, to High Street; and, if so, if approval has yet issued for this scheme.

Kerry County Council's proposals for this extension which were submitted to my Department some months ago are at present under examination.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received proposals from the Kerry County Council for a water scheme from the creamery at Firies, Killarney to the six cottages at Firies Cross and to the school at Longfield, Firies; and, if so, whether approval has issued from his Department.

Kerry County Council's proposals for Firies water supply scheme to serve 32 houses, including the six cottages at Firies Cross, were submitted on 18th instant and are at present under examination in my Department.

There are no proposals before my Department for a water supply extension to the school at Longfield, Firies.

42.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received proposals from Killarney Urban District Council for improved water supply to the town to cater for increasing needs; and, if so, the present position in the matter.

43.

asked the Minister for Local Government what proposals are at present under consideration by him in relation to the improvement of the sewerage system in Killarney, Kerry; the present position in this matter; and the present position regarding a proposed new disposal works for the sewerage system for the town.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 42 and 43 together.

Proposals by Killarney Urban District Council for an extension of the Park Road sewer are at present under consideration in my Department. The council have been asked to furnish additional technical data on the proposals.

No proposals by the council for an improvement of the town water supply are before the Department.

The competition seems to be fairly keen in South Kerry.

Preparation, not competition.

We are looking after our people.

44.

asked the Minister for Local Government the amount of money made available to Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Clare and Kerry County Councils for water and sewerage schemes for each of the years 1967 and 1968.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

The capital allocations to these county councils for expenditure likely to arise on approved sanitary and miscellaneous schemes in the financial years 1967-68 and 1968-69, up to 20th February, 1969, are as follows:—

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received proposals from the Kildare County Council for a sewerage scheme at Ballyulster, Celbridge, or any proposals that would lead to the initiation of such a scheme; if he is aware that the houses in this housing scheme have extra long gardens which would provide an additional site for relations of the present occupants; and if he will do whatever is possible to expedite the sewerage scheme to enable these sites to be available.

I have approved Kildare County Council's proposal for the appointment of a consulting engineer to prepare preliminary proposals for an extension of the Celbridge sewerage system and to investigate the possibility of sewering the Ballyulster houses.

46.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will ascertain from the Kerry County Council whether they have plans for a sewerage scheme for Knightstown, Valentia; and if so what place it holds in the general plans for sewerage scheme in Kerry.

I understand that Kerry County Council have asked their consulting engineer to prepare a preliminary report for a sewerage scheme for Knightstown, Valentia.

My Department have asked the council to submit an integrated priority list of their water and sewerage schemes in planning. Pending receipt of this list, I cannot indicate what degree of priority the council attach to the proposed scheme.

47.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received proposals from Cork County Council for a sewerage scheme for Ardgroom, Cork; and, if so, the present position on the matter.

No such proposals are before my Department.

48.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the proposed sewerage scheme for Allihies, Cork; whether it is on the priority list of the county council; and whether he will expedite sanction in view of large-scale tourist development about to take place in the area.

Contract documents for this scheme are under consideration in my Department.

As Cork County Council have not complied with requests to submit an integrated priority list of the water and sewerage schemes in planning in their area, I cannot say whether this scheme is included on such a list.

Is the Minister aware that he has hindered and obstructed in every way possible Cork County Council from implementing or executing a sewerage scheme for this village? Numerous letters have been sent to the Department and the scheme has been put on the long finger by the Minister's letter writers.

The county council have not submitted their priority list. I do not know whether this scheme will be on the list.

The Minister is joking.
