Vol. 238 No. 11

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 2, 15, 16 and 17. No. 17 will be taken in conjunction with No. 16. It is proposed to take Private Members' Business between 6 p.m. and 7.30 p.m.

Might I ask the Taoiseach if he is aware that on 4th December last there was a meeting of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges and it was arranged that there would be held during the month of January a special all-day meeting of the Committee to consider the Labour Party proposals for the reform of the procedures of Parliament and that this meeting has not yet taken place? Could the Taoiseach say why, and will he take steps to see that it does take place in view of the fact that it is a muchneeded operation?

The Deputy is aware that the Parliamentary Secretary who has been our Chief Whip has been ill for some time; that is a contributory cause. The Minister for Social Welfare, who is acting as Chief Whip, informed me only today of the proposition, and I instructed the Minister to arrange as early a date as possible to have such a meeting.
