Vol. 238 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government on what date application was received from Roscommon County Council for sanction of the extension of water supply in Ballaghaderreen at Castlerea Road; and what is the present position in relation to the scheme.

The proposal referred to was submitted to my Department in October, 1965. It was considered, however, that the Ballaghaderreen water supply could not cater for this extension pending its augmentation by the Ballinlough-Cloonfad-Loughglynn regional water supply scheme, contract documents for Stage I of which are at present in course of preparation by the county council.

In the name of commonsense what has the Castlerea-Ballinlough supplementary water supply got to do with the water supply on the Castlerea Road to Ballaghaderreen, which is not within 12 miles of Castlerea or 15 miles of Ballinlough?

I understand that the original proposal was for an extension of the Ballaghaderreen water supply scheme to the Castlerea road. I take it this is an extension of the scheme. The estimated cost at the time was £1,650.

The Parliamentary Secretary does not know anything about it. I assure him that his answer is absolutely grotesque.

I understand that the existing scheme was not capable of servicing this road.

You might as well say the Roundwood supply was not sufficient. The two places are 15 miles apart.

It is the Castlerea Road he is talking about.

There is a regional scheme in course of preparation for the area that will eventually go into the area towards Ballaghaderreen.

I will say no more about it. The Parliamentary Secretary should check on his answer.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received any request from Tralee Urban District Council for a loan to finance the proposed sewerage schemes for Racecourse Road and Monavalley, Tralee, County Kerry.

An application for a loan to finance these schemes was received in my Department on the 13th February, 1969, and a decision thereon will be issued shortly.

asked the Minister for Local Government if sanction has been given to North Tipperary County Council for the laying of sewerage at Littleton village, Thurles, County Tipperary.

The proposals of Tipperary (North Riding) County Council for the appointment of a consulting engineer to prepare preliminary proposals for a sewerage scheme for Littleton were approved by me on the 6th December last.
