Vol. 239 No. 2

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position in regard to a group water scheme for five cottiers at Upper Glanmire, Bally-philip, County Cork; if he is aware that these cottiers contributed £25 per house some months ago; what progress has been made on this scheme; and when the water supply will be available to the contributors.

I am aware of the contribution made by the householders.

I understand that Cork County Council recommend that the technical assessment of the proposed source of water should be deferred until the autumn. The position however is being re-examined to see if a satisfactory test could be undertaken sooner.

Is not the Minister aware that we sent a request to him that the gentleman connected with the group schemes should come to us in the housing authority with a view to settling all these questions and that we got a refusal from his Department? We requested that this gentleman should come to us so that we might have a conference where all these matters could be settled and thus save a great deal of time in this House.

I can assure the Deputy that we will get that settled for him after the election.

It is Cork County Council who recommended that the assessment of the source should be deferred until the autumn.

That it should be deferred?

Yes, Cork County Council, not a gentleman connected with my Department.

I am very glad to have that information.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position regarding the group water scheme at Lyre West, Ballymacarberry, County Waterford.

Waterford County Council notified my Department two weeks ago that they have approved of this scheme, subject to minor amendments. The promoter is now being advised to seek quotations for the various elements of the scheme.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will now state the cause of the delay in implementing the Ballymacelligott group water scheme, County Kerry.

This scheme has been approved by my Department. I understand that the group are awaiting the delivery of pipes and other materials.

Twelve months is a long time and work has not started on the scheme yet.

They cannot start the work without the materials.

What is delaying them?

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in regard to the water scheme for Muingephuca, Killorglin, County Kerry; if he is aware of the general demand for this scheme in view of the lack of water for domestic use and for use by local farmers; and if he will sanction this scheme at an early date.

Approval was recently given to the raising of a loan to finance an extension of a watermain to supply this group. I understand that the group are awaiting quotations for the various elements of their part of the scheme.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government when a water supply will be available for the houses at Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon, adjoining the Garda station on the Crenane Road.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government why the water supply for the houses adjoining the Garda station on the Crenane Road, Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon will not be made available from the Ballaghaderreen water supply in view of the fact that this is by far the nearest water supply to the houses in question.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the Ballinlough-Cloonfad-Loughglynn regional water supply scheme, County Roscommon is expected to come into operation; and when will it augment the Ballaghaderreen scheme.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 32, 33 and 34 together.

On the 20th February, 1969, I notified Roscommon County Council of my approval to the preparation of final contract documents for Stage I of the Ballinlough-Cloonfad-Loughglynn regional water supply scheme. This scheme is designed, inter alia, to supplement the existing Ballaghaderreen supply. As the Deputy was informed in reply to Question No. 33 of 5th instant, it is considered that, pending augmentation, the existing Ballaghaderreen supply could not adequately cater for the Castlerea Road-Crenane Road extension.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a number of houses at Ballyrehan West, Lixnaw, County Kerry did not get a piped water supply when the Abbeydorney-Kilflynn scheme was extended to Ballyrehan some months ago; and when householders will get the supply.

This is a matter in the first instance for the county council which has not submitted any proposal for an extension for my consideration.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the proposed piped water scheme for the Ardfert district has been listed No. 1 of Kerry County Council's priority schemes for the past four to five years; and when work is likely to commence on this most urgent scheme.

I am aware of the priority which Kerry County Council attach to the Ardfert scheme in their water supply programme. The feasibility of the scheme is, however, contingent on the development and proving of the source. I approved proposals for this work on the 14th January, 1969.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government on what date he expects to sanction the Allihies water and sewerage scheme, County Cork.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give details of the water and sewerage schemes before his Department relating to the Beara Peninsula, County Cork; and when he will sanction each.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 37 and 38 together.

There are three proposals for water and sewerage schemes for the Beara Peninsula at present before my Department.

Two of these are sewerage schemes — Allihies sewerage scheme and Castletownbere sewerage extension to Derrymihan West. As the county council have not complied with requests to submit an integrated priority list of their water and sewerage schemes in planning I cannot say what degree of priority they wish to attach to these schemes.

The remaining scheme is the Castle-townbere water supply improvement scheme. I hope to be in a position shortly to convey a decision on the preliminary proposals for that scheme which were submitted to my Department recently.

No proposals are before my Department for a water supply scheme for Allihies.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government when his Department expects to give sanction to the sewerage extension to Beenbawn, Waterville, County Kerry.

No proposals for a sewerage extension to Beenbawn, Waterville, have been received in my Department.

40.

asked the Minister for Local Government when work is likely to commence on the sewerage schemes in Killenaule, Ballingarry and New Inn in South Tipperary.

I have fully approved the Killenaule sewerage scheme and it is a matter for the local authority to arrange for the execution of the work.

Contract documents for the Ballingarry sewerage scheme were received in my Department on the 23rd October last and are presently under consideration.

As regards the New Inn scheme, there has been no change in the position since my reply to the Deputy's question of the 18th June last.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he expects to give sanction to the proposal submitted by the Kerry County Council for the provision of a sewerage scheme for Fenit.

I will not be in a position to say when a loan for this scheme will be approved until the county council submit to my Department an integrated priority list of their water and sewerage schemes in planning which was requested last August.
