Vol. 239 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

10.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Sligo County Council formulated a regional water scheme known as No. 3 for Sligo north regional area which included an extension to Raughley; and that he only sanctioned a limited scheme; if he is prepared to sanction the outstanding portion of the scheme; and, if so, when.

On the latest information available to me the local authority do not regard the balance of section 3 of the North Sligo water supply scheme as having a high priority in their sanitary services programme. In the circumstances I cannot indicate when this work will be approved.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in sanctioning a sewerage scheme for Main Street, Ballinacurra, County Cork; and when he expects to give sanction to the scheme.

Proposals for sewerage schemes to serve the environs of Midleton, including the Ballinacurra area, were submitted to my Department last November and are under technical examination. I cannot say when a decision on the proposals will issue.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in extending the sewerage scheme at Portarlington, County Laois; and whether he will ensure that this extension scheme is carried out to enable the building of houses to proceed.

I understand that work is in progress on the extension of the Portarlington sewerage scheme to Droughill. Tenders for the pumping plant for the scheme, which are at present before my Department, have been the subject of discussions between my Department's engineering advisers and the council's consulting engineers as a result of which the consultants are to submit additional technical information.
