Vol. 239 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballinasloe Cow Park.

101.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is the intention of the Land Commission to divide the cow park at the Grattan-Bellew Estate, Mountbellew, Ballinasloe, County Galway, which is at present held in trust.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the revocation of the trust scheme under which this area of 77 acres has been held for many years. However, user of the lands is a matter which is being kept under review.

Is the Minister aware that parts of these lands are being set by this trust to people in that district other than small land-holders whereas, according to the terms of the trust, this land is specifically for the use of the people of the town and, failing their having stock to use it, for the use of small farmers? The terms of the trust are not properly being fulfilled in this instance. I should like the Minister to look into the matter with a view to acquiring the land and dividing it among the small farmers——

Again, Deputy Donnellan has been ill-advised in this matter. Before doing anything, would the Minister consult the local interests? The local development association in Mountbellew, of which I am a member, is looking for sites for a small industry and to build houses. I would ask the Minister first to consult the local interests in Mountbellew and I would say to Deputy Donnellan that he should look after Dunmore——

Quite a large number of factories could be built on 77 acres.

Certainly, this does not look well for Galway in next year's All Ireland.

I shall look after Dunmore, too.

Why does Deputy Kitt not put down a question?

I am not such a fool as the Deputy is.

User of the land is a matter which is being kept under review.
