Vol. 239 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clerks of Works (Kerry).

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Kerry County Council have a number of clerks of works employed on their housing programme since 1950; and if these employees can be made permanent and get recognition for their long years of temporary service.

I am aware that four clerks of works were recruited by Kerry County Council in 1951 and 1952 for supervisory duties in connection with local authority housing and that they have continued to be employed by the local authority since then. One of these men has taken legal action against the county council regarding the tenure of his employment and as I understand that the matter is still before the courts, I consider it would not be appropriate for me to make any further comment at this stage.
