Vol. 239 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sickness Benefit for Insured Worker.

29.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will investigate a complaint by insured worker No. 817037 (name supplied) that there are two weeks sickness benefit due to him for an illness which ended five weeks ago; and the reason for the long delay in the payment of benefit.

This claim for disability benefit in respect of the person concerned for the period from 22nd January, 1969 to 5th February, 1969 was received in Dungarvan by the local agent of my Department on 6th February, 1969. Payment of the amount due, £11 2s, was duly authorised in my Department, but through a regrettable error on the part of the official concerned no cheque was issued. The matter was brought to light by an inquiry from the local agent and the cheque was issued on 13th March, 1969.

I am sure Deputy Kyne's question helped, too.

I should like to think that it did but I am afraid the timing did not quite synchronise.
