Vol. 239 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

6.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when electricity supply will be extended to the remainder of the Dunmanway rural area, County Cork.

I am informed by the Elecrticity Supply Board that the area of Dunmanway is included in the Board's rural areas of Drimoleague, Caheragh, Drinagh, Coolkellure, Teenagh, Ballineen and Corran. The first three areas have been recanvassed under the planned post-development scheme and construction work was nearly completed before last Christmas. It is hoped to restart work next month and to have it completed within a few months. Supply will then be extended to all householders who have accepted the terms quoted and have had their houses wired.

The remaining areas are not scheduled to be recanvassed before 1972.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when the ESB propose to develop the Dungloe area of West Donegal under their planned post-development scheme.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that Dungloe, in the Board's Dungloe rural area, is now scheduled for recanvass under the planned post-development scheme in early 1971. Construction work commences about six months after the recanvass when electricity is extended to all applicants who accept the terms quoted and have their houses wired.

Do I understand the Parliamentary Secretary to say 1971?

Early 1971.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that officials of the Department informed me within the past week that it will be three years before the area is recanvassed? Further, is he aware that he told me three months ago that it would be recanvassed in 1971? Which is correct?

The latter. The Deputy says I informed him three months ago that it would be recanvassed in 1971: that is correct.

Officials told me within the past week that it will be three years before it is recanvassed.

I have just replied to the Deputy's question.

I unreservedly accept the Parliamentary Secretary's reply.
