Vol. 239 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Interception Services.

11.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if a telephone number (details supplied) is on interception arising from change of the subscriber's number; and, if so, why calls thereto are not answered.

12.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that the interception service provided in respect of telephone numbers which have been changed in Dublin is completely inadequate; and what steps are being taken to rectify this.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 11 and 12 together. The telephone number mentioned has been on changed number interception since 13th December, 1968, following a change of residence by the subscriber. A special check of the equipment has not revealed any fault which would account for a failure of the service, and test calls made to the number were answered in the exchange.

I am not aware that the interception service in respect of changed numbers in Dublin is unsatisfactory as suggested by the Deputy, and no previous complaint that it is so has been received. I shall be glad to have any specific complaint specially inquired into.
