Vol. 239 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent need to provide piped water to meet the needs of the people of the Modeligo area, Cappoquin, County Waterford; and what steps are being taken towards this end.

There are no proposals before my Department in this matter.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is yet in a position to state when he is prepared to meet a deputation from the Northern Committee of the Cork County Council to discuss with them the prolonged delays in sanctioning the different water schemes submitted for this area.

As indicated in replies to questions by the Deputy on this subject on the 7th November and 11th December last, I have released schemes to the value of well over £1 million in the Cork area. Since the 11th December I have released the Castletownroche water supply scheme. This was one of the schemes which were the subject of the request for the reception of a deputation from the Northern Committee of Cork County Council.

No useful purpose could be served by the reception at this stage of a deputation to discuss the release of further schemes in the area.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government how much money was expended to date on water and sewerage schemes in County Kerry during the financial year ending 31st March, 1969; and if he will give the name of each such scheme.

This information is not available in my Department.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the serious dissatisfaction in Claremorris as a result of Mayo County Council not having provided a proper water and sewerage system for the residents there; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy this situation.

There are no proposals before my Department for water or sewerage improvement schemes for Claremorris. I understand that the water supply position in the town is satisfactory and that the town sewerage system will be fully operational when the scheme of house connections at present in progress is completed.

Is the Minister aware that neither the water nor the sewerage system in Claremorris is satisfactory? Is the Minister further aware that, in recent times, a man buried a dog in a hole which had been ripped up in the street?

No, I am not.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received any proposals from the Cork Corporation regarding a new sewerage scheme covering the whole city and discharging at Passage; and, if so, what steps are being taken to ensure that there will be no loss of amenity to the county and danger to the health of the residents of the county.

Preliminary proposals for a main drainage scheme for Cork City have been received in my Department. All aspects of the scheme, including those referred to by the Deputy, will be taken into consideration in examining the proposals.

I am sorry, the question has been changed. My question was to ensure that there would be no loss of protein amenities to the city and no danger to the health of the residents by the removal of those amenities. I am sure the Minister knows what these amenities are.

Which amenities?

We will get that fixed up for you after the election.

Perfume.

Oh, yes.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will be in a position to give approval to the proposed sewerage scheme for Toomevara, Nenagh, County Tipperary, plans for which were submitted to him in September last.

I have asked the local authority to give further consideration to certain technical aspects of the design of this scheme. When the results of this are available the matter will be considered further.

Would the Minister say when he notified the Tipperary County Council to that effect?

On the 14th March, 1969.

Thank you.
