Vol. 239 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Calf Subsidy.

7.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is satisfied that farmers who are interested in the calf subsidy are fully aware that their applications must be in before the 31st March, 1969.

The answer is yes. During the past few weeks an intensive advertising campaign has been conducted in the newspapers, radio and television emphasising that in order to qualify for grants this year under the Beef Cattle Incentive Scheme applications must be in by 31st March.

Is the Minister aware that a large number of farmers do not know the closing date is 31st March? I would respectfully ask him to postpone it to at least 30th April. It has not been advertised fully.

I saw it myself several times on television.

I agree, but there are many farmers who have no television.

I am speaking as a farmer myself.

The Minister is an up to date farmer and he has a television set.

I will convey the suggestion to the Minister.

I did not know it.

Will the Minister consider the suggestion?

I will convey the suggestion to the Minister. At this very moment he is meeting the creamery milk suppliers.

Are the NFA there?

They will be there next week despite the best efforts of certain people.

They know there is a general election coming. They will not be left waiting now for three weeks.
