Vol. 239 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Board of Works Employees at Killarney.

40.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the great dissatisfaction among workers who are members of the ITGWU and employed by the Office of Public Works in the Bourn Vincent Memorial Park, Killarney, because of the failure of the Office to apply to them the weekly working hours stipulated for the building industry in the area; that the workers concerned receive the building rate of wages; and that their present working week is 50 hours instead of 42½ hours; and if, as this park is the showpiece of Irish tourism and a dispute would be a severe blow to tourism, he will immediately arrange to have the claim resolved by conceding the working hours demanded.

I am aware that a claim has been made for a reduction in the working hours of men employed by the Office of Public Works at the Bourn Vincent Memorial Park, Killarney. The claim is only of recent origin. It is being actively considered and a decision will be conveyed to the union concerned at an early date.
