Vol. 239 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition and Division.

73.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Drew Estate, Clonbur, County Galway, has been taken over by the Land Commission for distribution amongst the local congests; if so, the date on which it was taken over; and what arrangements have been made to date regarding subdivision.

Proceedings for the compulsory acquisition of this property have reached the stage where the lands have actually vested in the Land Commission and the land bonds representing the purchase money placed to credit. However, the Land Commission have failed to secure clear possession of the lands and arrangements are now in train to have an application made to the Judicial Commissioner for an Order for Possession under section 19 of the Land Act, 1927. Until such time as possession has been obtained it is not possible to state when the lands will be allotted.

74.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have any plans for the acquisition of the McNally Estate, Castle Ellen, Athenry, County Galway.

75.

asked the Minister for Lands the present position regarding the Tonra Estate, Cussaun, Athenry, County Galway.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 74 and 75 together.

Proceedings have been instituted by the Land Commission for compulsory acquisition of both of these properties, containing 67 acres and 35 acres respectively, and objections lodged on behalf of the owners are at present pending for determination.

76.

asked the Minister for Lands what estates in County Limerick have been acquired by the Land Commission and have not as yet been divided.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to two questions, namely, Nos. 95 and 96 of 20th instant. As the same considerations apply in the present case, I would suggest that the Deputy repeat the question in about six weeks time.

77.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is proposed to acquire the Cooga Estate, Doon, County Limerick for division among local uneconomic holders; and, if so, when.

Possession of this 164 acre property passed to the Land Commission in January, 1968. It is expected that the lands will be allotted within the next few weeks.

78.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire the Constable Estate, Kilsheelan, County Tipperary.

The Land Commission have decided to proceed for compulsory acquisition of this 257-acre property. The owner's solicitor has been notified accordingly and the relevant statutory notices will be published as soon as possible.

I take it that the Minister is saying that there is now a firm intention on the part of the Land Commission to acquire part of the estate?
