Mr. T. O'Donnell, Mr. Jones, Mr. T. Dunne, Mr. P. Hogan
(South Tipperary) and Mr. Coughlan asked the Taoiseach what percentage of the population of the Republic was resident in (a) Dublin city and environs and (b) Dublin and area within 30 miles thereof, in the census years of 1926, 1936, 1946, 1956 and 1966.
With your permission, Sir, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the desired information in so far as this is available. It is not possible, in the case of Dublin County Borough and suburbs, to give figures which are strictly comparable over the period 1926 to 1966, in view of the numerous changes in boundaries involved.
Following is the statement:
PERCENTAGE of population of State in (a) Dublin County Borough and Suburbs and (b) Dublin County Borough and area within 30 miles thereof in 1926, 1936, 1946, 1956 and 1966.

NOTE.—Suburban areas were not enumerated separately at Censuses of Population prior to that of 1951. For the year 1926, the percentage relates to Dublin County Borough, as then defined, together with the Urban Districts of Howth, Pembroke, Rathmines and Rathgar. For the years 1936 and 1946, the percentages relate to the area of Dublin County Borough as then defined together with the Urban District of Howth (Pembroke, Rathmines and Rathgar having been taken into the County Borough). For 1956 and 1966 the percentages relate to the area of Dublin County Borough and Suburbs as defined at the respective censuses.
