Vol. 239 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dungarvan (Waterford) Telephone Service.

4.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether his Department have received complaints from telephone subscribers in the Dungarvan, County Waterford area relating to long delays in making contact with the local exchange as well as difficulty in getting connections with desired numbers; whether the complaints arise from (a) staff problems or (b) insufficient switchboard installation; and if he will have the complaints investigated and remedied at the earliest possible date.

Complaints have been received recently from some subscribers in the Dungarvan area about delays in being answered by the exchange and delays to trunk calls. Such delays occur at certain times because the switchboards and trunk circuits serving Dungarvan exchange are not now adequate for the increased volume of telephone traffic. Work at present in progress on the installation of additional switchboards is expected to be completed within the next two weeks and further trunk circuits will be provided within the next three months, when the new underground co-axial trunk cable between Dungarvan and Waterford is brought into service.
