Vol. 239 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Drainage.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received a proposal from Meath County Council with regard to the carrying out of drainage work to portion of the river Tolka in order to prevent further flooding in Clonee village, County Meath; and if he has yet made a decision on the proposal.

Proposals on this matter, submitted to my Department by Meath County Council, could affect the administrative areas of other local authorities. I have requested the views of these authorities. Until these views have been received and considered by me I will not be in a position to make a decision on the proposals.

Does the Minister not remember telling a deputation from the county council that called on him almost two months ago that he hoped to have a reply within a few weeks? Can the Minister say now what has caused the delay in view of the fact that there are only two local authorities involved, Dublin County Council and Meath County Council?

I have not yet received a reply either from Dublin County Council or Dublin Corporation.

I wonder if the Minister will ask the county council to give him the necessary information? I am sure he has ways of dealing with them if they do not do what he wants them to do.
