A telephone kiosk is not warranted at Milltown.
How are the people to get a priest or a doctor? It is five miles to the nearest public phone if the shop is closed.
I understand there are telephones in the area and that these are available at all times in an emergency.
Perhaps the Minister would let the people down there know where they are because they do not know.
When a Deputy states there is no emergency telephone service in an area I always have regard to that when taking any further action——
I am told the people have to go to Newbridge.
——and my experience has always been that my Department is correct in what they tell me. Kiosks have to be refused for economic reasons and on any occasion on which I have taken this matter up with my Department and informed the Deputy interested of the result of my inquiries I have never had the Deputy come back and tell me that I am wrong.
I am told that once the shop is closed the people have to go to Newbridge, which is four to five statute miles distant.
I shall make inquiries.
