Vol. 239 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

28.

Mr. O'Malley

asked the Minister for Local Government what proposals are before his Department from Limerick County Council for the provision of a water supply for Caherdavin and Coonagh, County Limerick.

There are no proposals before my Department from Limerick County Council for the provision of a water supply for the Caherdavin and Coonagh areas, which at present obtain their supply from Limerick city.

I have, however, sanctioned contract documents for a Limerick Corporation scheme for an increase in the pumping capacity of the Clareville waterworks, and I understand that this scheme will materially improve the supply position in these areas.

The scheme that Deputy Stephen Coughlan initiated.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Templenoe to Kenmare water scheme, County Kerry, and the Twomilebridge to Kenmare water scheme; if moneys for these schemes are available at present; and the reason for the delay in proceeding with them.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his Question No. 39 of 28th November, 1968, concerning the Templenoe scheme. On the 16th December, 1968, I asked the local authority to investigate the feasibility of having the scheme carried out by group co-operative effort and a reply in the matter is awaited.

There are no proposals before my Department for a water supply scheme for Twomilebridge to Kenmare.

Is the Minister aware that last year during the tourist season in Kenmare, which is a well-known tourist resort, the fire brigade had to pump water to the local factory and to the hotels for two months of the year? The matter came before the county council who were in touch with the Department in relation to the scheme for Twomilebridge to Kenmare and I should like to know what the position is.

There are no proposals before my Department for a water supply scheme for Twomilebridge to Kenmare.

30

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Portmagee sewerage scheme, County Kerry; and when his Department will sanction the loan.

There has been no change in the position since my reply to the Deputy's Question No. 38 of 4th March last in the matter.
