Vol. 240 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Garda Station.

57.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will expedite the erection of a Garda station in Ballyfermot, Dublin; and when work is likely to commence.

I am informed by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance that tenders for the erection of this station have recently been invited and that it is expected that work will commence this summer.

Can we have an assurance from the Minister that this work will be completed as speedily as possible since Deputy Dowling needs all the Garda protection that he can possibly get when he ventures within a mile of the district of Ballyfermot?

Is that a threat?

It is simply a statement of fact.

(Interruptions.)

The Deputy should not denigrate the residents of Ballyfermot like that.

That is not denigration, it is credit, and anyway the Taoiseach would not know the area about which I speak.

He knows it well.

Neither does the Deputy.

(Interruptions.)

Will Deputy Dunne please cease interrupting? Deputy Joe Dowling.

The interruptions are coming from that side. I am not a ventriloquist.

Only in the political sense.

I want to ask the Minister whether, in view of the fact that I put this question down when I represented Ballyfermot many years ago,——

Misrepresented.

——he will ensure, now that I am going to represent it again, that this building will be completed as soon as possible, because by the looks of things it will be needed for the protection of Deputy Dunne from his own supporters.

Well, whoever needs protection in the area, I hope the building will be completed this summer.
