Vol. 240 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Koln Estate.

93.

asked the Minister for Lands the dates on which the various parts of the Koln estate, County Meath were acquired by the Land Commission; and the probable date of division of this estate.

This extensive property, comprising 883 acres, was acquired by the Land Commission in three separate transactions and possession was taken as follows—509 acres on 11th September, 1964; 91 acres on 1st March, 1967; and 283 acres on 28th February, 1969. A scheme has been formulated for part of the lands and it is expected that allotment will be effected shortly. Work on the framing of resale proposals for other portions of the estate is proceeding as rapidly as circumstances permit.

I assume we can take it that the first portion is portion of what was taken over in 1964?

Part of that.

In view of the fact that the reason given by the Land Commission for holding up the division of this estate was that they were waiting to get the remainder, surely if they have done so now, they should be in a position to allocate it all or decide what they were going to do with it? After all, five years is a long time.

Some of it, as I mentioned, was only taken over on 28th February of this year.

Therefore, if they were waiting to take over all the estate before dividing it——

They have not divided any of it yet. It is the usual mucking by the Land Commission.
