Vol. 240 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

8.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware of the urgency of installing electricity supply for the districts of Coulagh, Kilcatherine and Killmanagh in West Cork, where tourism is an important industry; when supply will be provided; how many householders will be affected; and the year the scheme will be completed.

I have been informed by the ESB that the townlands of Coulagh and Kilcatherine are in the board's Castletownbere rural area. The board have been unable to locate the townland of Killmanagh and it is assumed that it is in the same area. Re-canvass of the Castletownbere rural area under the post-development scheme is expected to be completed soon. It is hoped to complete construction work before the end of this year and supply will be extended to all householders who accept the terms quoted and have their houses wired.

9.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when he expects that ESB supply will be provided in the remaining areas of Tuosist and Lauragh, County Kerry, where many of the houses are catering for tourists.

I am informed by the ESB that Tuosist and Lauragh are in the board's Tuosist rural area which is not likely to be re-canvassed under the rural electrification planned post-development scheme before early 1972. Construction normally commences about six months after the re-canvass.
