Vol. 240 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway School.

28.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in view of the condition of Salerna national school, Knock, Inverin, County Galway, what steps he has for the early building of a new school to serve the 150 children attending from that area.

Arrangements are in hands for the replacement of the existing national school at Salerna by a new building on a new site. Agreement has been reached as to the local contribution to be paid towards the cost of the new school and a grant will be sanctioned as soon as satisfactory evidence of title to the site has been furnished to my Department by the reverend manager. Some difficulties and delay arose in the establishment of title but I understand that the legal requirements in that regard will shortly be fulfilled.

The planning of the new building could not be satisfactorily undertaken until the reverend manager had a well sunk on the site, to provide an adequate supply of water for the school. I am informed that a well was sunk on Wednesday of last week, and the Commissioners of Public Works are now proceeding with the planning of the building.

The arrangements for this new building have been given a special priority in my Department and in the Office of Public Works.
