Vol. 240 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Supply.

3.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if the ESB will vary its policy in regard to installation of electricity to ensure early priority for small dairy farmers in the more remote areas to whom a supply of electricity is so important to produce milk up to the standard of present-day requirements.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that it is their policy to deploy the resources available for connecting new rural consumers on the basis of an orderly programme, planned and executed on a rational basis. Only in this way can the overall cost, and the cost of individual connections, be kept within reasonable limits, though it necessarily involves a wait for many applicants, including some small dairy farmers, until their areas are reached under the programme. To give priority to unconnected dairy farmers irrespective of the areas in which they are situated would seriously interfere with the orderly progress of the planned programme and would increase costs significantly.

4.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if the extension of an electricity supply will be expedited to farmers in the Mullintoura and Coola areas of County Cork.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the townlands of Mullintoura and Coola are in the Board's Kildinan Rural Area which is not scheduled for recanvass under the post-development scheme before 1972. Construction work commences about six months after the canvass and supply will be extended to all householders who accept the terms quoted and have their houses wired.

5.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when it is proposed to have ESB power made available in the Sonnagh, Cuppinagh, Cullinagh and Killeenadeema areas of Loughrea, County Galway.

I am informed by the ESB that the townlands in question are in the Board's Killeenadeema Rural Area which is not scheduled for recanvass under the post-development scheme before the middle of 1970 approximately. Construction work commences about six months after the canvass and supply will be extended to all householders who accept the terms quoted and have their houses wired.
