Vol. 240 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilronan Pier (Aran Islands) Navigation Light.

9.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that the navigation light on Kilronan pier, Aran Islands, County Galway, has been out of order for some time; and if he will arrange to have a continuous warning given from Valentia radio whenever this light is out of order again.

The light at Kilronan pier which was out of order for some time recently is being restored. This light is one of sixty secondary lights around our coasts excluding those lights under the control of harbour authorities. Continuous warning broadcasts from coastal radio stations indicate when main lights are out of operation. To extend the broadcasts to secondary lights or other minor navigational hazards would unduly crowd the frequency and be prejudicial to marine safety.
