Vol. 240 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Housing.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the Dublin Corporation will erect purchase type houses in Ballyfermot at the open space on Sarsfield Road, formerly the site of Saint Mary's Terrace.

The provision of any such scheme would be a matter for decision, in the first instance, by the local housing authority. No proposal in the matter has been submitted to my Department.

Is the Minister aware that there is a demand in the Ballyfermot area for purchase type houses and would he favourably consider any scheme submitted to him for the development of houses of this type in the Ballyfermot area?

I certainly will.

That is about all he will do.

When the Minister did not consider it before now, it is not likely that he will do anything about it at this stage.

Will the Minister state if he knows this particular area very well and will he state, also, what is the purpose of this recently demolished area being left vacant at the present time?

I know the area very well. I have a longer acquaintance with it than Deputy O'Connell has. The Deputy's colleague, Deputy Dunne, also has a close acquaintance with it.

I have no doubt about that but I am anxious to know what is being decided for this site.

No proposal in relation to the site has been submitted to my Department.

Is the Minister further aware that this place was cleared for development and that the Corporation had to erect a galvanised iron railing around the site to keep out Deputy Dunne?

It would take more than a galvanised fence to keep Deputy Dunne out of this House.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of housing sites or the number of acres acquired by Dublin Corporation for house building since January, 1966 to date; and the additional number of sites the corporation propose to purchase in the coming year.

This information is not available in my Department.
