Where alternative rates are shown, the rate applicable is whichever is the greater.

Turnover tax also applied to drinking glasses imported during 1964 to 1968, at the rate of 2½ per cent of their value as increased by the amount of duty (including Special Import Levy) payable.

Special Import Levy was chargeable, in addition to ordinary customs duty, on drinking glasses imported between 2 November, 1965 and 30 September, 1966, inclusive, the rates being 15 per cent (Full and Preferential), 10 per cent (Special Preferential and United Kingdom) and Nil (Northern Ireland). The amount of levy payable was includible in the value on which turnover tax was calculated.

Wholesale tax was chargeable in addition to customs duty and turnover tax on drinking glasses imported on and after 1 October, 1966, at the rate of 5 per cent of their value as increased by the amount of customs duty payable.

Registered persons were exempt from payment of turnover and/or wholesale tax at importation.
