Vol. 240 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bus Traffic Survey.

2.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if the bus traffic survey has been completed for CIE; and the extent of the survey.

I am advised by CIE that the consultant's report on the public transport origin and destination survey in Dublin is expected to be delivered to them within the next two months. The report will deal with the validity of the existing network of bus routes and will make recommendations for the pattern of bus services which would be appropriate when the new road system shown on Dublin Corporation's general traffic plan (1965) has been built.

Is the Minister aware that the preliminary report proposed an extension of the bus service from Ballyfermot to link up with other perimeter areas and would he use his good offices to ensure that CIE will implement this report as soon as possible so that the workers of Ballyfermot will be able to commute with the least possible trouble daily?

As I have explained, CIE expect to have this report in two months. Certainly, the Minister will endeavour to ensure that as many people as possible will be served arising out of this report. That, of course, will include Ballyfermot.
