Vol. 240 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bluebell (Dublin) Library.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government what plans Dublin Corporation have to provide a branch library in Bluebell.

There is an existing branch library in Inchicore. No proposals for the provision of a further library at Bluebell have been submitted by the local authority. Let the Deputy convey that to his colleague.

I will do more than that. I will ask the Minister a couple of questions now. Is the Minister aware —I do not expect he is—that there exists in Bluebell a very substantial population of Dublin workers to whom Inchicore represents a not inconsiderable journey and does he not consider that he might ask his appointee, who is posing as a corporate body in the City Hall, to consider the advisability and, indeed, the necessity of providing a branch library in Bluebell for the convenience of the large and growing population there? That is a civil question. Is the Minister capable of making a civil answer.

It did not sound all that civil to me, but the fact is that this local body has not sent forward any such proposal to my Department and the question of sanction, therefore, does not arise. However, I have no doubt now that the time of the particular local authority will not be taken up with political playacting it will be possible for it to deal with practical matters more expeditiously.

(Interruptions.)

I am not going to do the work of Dublin Corporation. Deputy Dunne was elected to do that and he refused to do it and he refused to let anybody else do it.
