Vol. 240 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment of Plasterers.

40.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware that plasterers who are not known to be members of any union are coming across the Border from Northern Ireland into Dundalk and plastering houses on subcontract; and that local plasterers are disemployed as a result; if there are any rules to prevent this; and in what way his Department can help to alleviate this hardship.

I understand that plasterers from Northern Ireland sometimes carry out work in Dundalk on a contract basis. There is nothing in the law against such arrangements and I would not favour any attempt to introduce statutory provisions to deal with them.
