Vol. 241 No. 3

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business as follows: Nos. 9 to 14, inclusive. Deputy Sweetman asked me yesterday what business it would be necessary to have concluded before the adjournment. The business to be concluded would be the items ordered for today, Nos. 9 to 14, added to which would be the Finance Bill and the Social Welfare Bill. It would be desirable, although not necessary, to conclude debates on some of the Departmental Estimates and the Estimates that will be ready will be notified as early as possible to the Opposition Parties.

It is not necessary to conclude them?

No, except that it would make time in the autumn.

No other Bills will be taken?

No others are necessary and I do not envisage any others at this stage.

The Central Bank Bill will not be taken?

I do not think so.

Is it intended to reintroduce the Health Bill this session?

It is, but I do not think it will be taken this session.

When will we get the Finance Bill? It is down for Tuesday.

It will be ready for circulation before the end of the week.

It is quite unusual that there should be only a day or two before receiving such an important Bill as the Finance Bill and its debate.

It is an unsual situation.

The Civil Service and the Government had the whole of the election period during which to have the Bill printed and I do not know what their reason for not doing so was.

We thought you were going to take over.

We should have had it at the beginning of the week.
