Vol. 241 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Bay Pollution.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government how the proposed new sewage works in Dublin will reduce pollution of Dublin Bay; and by how much the present level of pollution of the bay will be reduced.

The extension and improvement of the existing city drainage system and the construction of a more up-to-date treatment works will appreciably improve the existing position in the Dublin Bay area. However, the Deputy will appreciate that it is not possible at this stage to forecast the precise degree of such improvement.

Will the Minister say whether he has had any consultations with the Dublin city manager with whom he is in conflict as to whether there would be any improvement in pollution as a result of the scheme?

There will be an improvement and there is not any conflicting position.
