Vol. 241 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Sandymount Strand (Dublin) Development.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether there are proposals for the development of the Sandymount Strand area (a) for industry and (b) as a recreational amenity for the citizens of Dublin.

There are no such proposals before me. The determination of the future land-use pattern for the area in question is primarily a matter for the planning authority. Their proposals for land-use, development and conservation in that area are set out in the revised draft development plan for Dublin which is at present on public display. The plan shows the limits of reclamation as at present envisaged, together with the uses proposed for the reclaimed area and adjoining existing land. Part of the area is zoned for industrial use, but the planning authority intend that the industrial zone should be separated from the residential area of Sandymount by a wide belt of amenity land which they intend to reserve for use as public open space. Apart from this area, it is an objective of the draft plan that the entire foreshore of Sandymount Strand should be reserved as an area of high amenity and it is stated that the area will be examined with a view to considering the making of a special amenity area order in respect of it.
