Vol. 241 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Schemes.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Cashelard group water scheme, County Donegal; how many grants were paid; how many grants are yet to be paid; if the scheme is completely finished; and how much the group is in debt.

This scheme is not fully completed. Certain work still remains to be done on the headworks and the house plumbing. A total of 58 State grants and 52 supplementary grants have been paid to date. Donegal County Council have been asked to pay the six outstanding supplementary grants. The number of final participants eligible for grants cannot be determined at this stage but there may be up to seven further grants payable by my Department and the county council. The up-to-date financial position of the group is being investigated.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Creery, Ballyshannon, County Donegal.

This scheme is being designed by an engineer appointed by the group.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give particulars of current group water schemes which have been submitted to his Department from County Meath.

A statement setting out the position is being prepared and will be forwarded to the Deputy.

Would the Minister comment on the position in which a number of group committees find themselves with regard to the supply of pipes, in view of the fact that pipe manufacturers now demand cash before delivery? Would the Minister have any recommendation to make to those group committees who find they have everything clear except the question of the supply of pipes? Has the Minister any information on this?

I have no information that that is so, but I will look into it.

In view of the urgent situation that arose in the Baltimore area during the week would the Minister consider sanctioning the scheme there too?

This question relates to County Meath.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will have approval sent out to the Kerry County Council for the Caherdaniel water scheme which is urgently needed in view of the proposed hotel and guest house development in the area.

On the latest information available to me the local authority do not regard this scheme as having a high priority on their public water supply programme.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in giving sanction to Shrule, Roundfort and Hollymount regional water supply scheme, County Mayo; and what steps, if any, he is taking in the matter.

Having regard to the necessity to conserve available capital for housing and other essential services only those sanitary services works of the highest priority can be allowed to proceed at the present time. On this basis I have recently released sanitary services schemes to the value of over £115,000 in Mayo. These schemes included the Shrule water supply scheme for which I have approved of the preparation of contract documents. I cannot, however, say when a decision on the remaining scheme referred to by the Deputy is likely to issue.

In view of the fact that the county council are anxious to get this scheme under way would the Minister give sanction for the Shrule water supply scheme?

It is not accorded high priority by the local authority or the county council.

Shrule has been submitted as a priority scheme.

It has not.
