Vol. 241 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Traffic Lights.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the need for traffic lights at Kill o' the Grange, County Dublin; and if it is proposed to have them provided there.

The provision of traffic light signals is a matter for the local authority, acting at the request, or with the consent, of the Garda Commissioner. There are no proposals before my Department in the matter.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government what are the existing arrangements for the maintenance of road traffic signal lights in the city of Dublin.

The making of arrangements for the maintenance of traffic light signals is a matter for the road authority which had the signals installed.

I understand that the practice is for the signal contractor to include in his tender for the supply and installation of traffic light signals, or pedestrian operated signals, a separate figure for maintenance of the installation. The installation is maintained under guarantee for the first year of operation and is subsequently maintained by the contractor indefinitely at the figure quoted in his tender.
